Lexington Habitat Homebuyer Gets Her Keys

LEXINGTON (April 26, 2019) – Lexington Habitat for Humanity celebrates the first home dedication of 2019 with homebuyer LaToya Williams and her three children, Jamari, Tanaja and Caylon. Their home dedication will take place on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at their new home on 1842 Balfour Drive, located near the Griffin Gate neighborhood in Lexington.

Homeowership means so much to LaToya, a native Lexingtonian. She says that there were times in her life when she had almost lost hope, but she refused to let her situation dictate her future. LaToya appreciates the prayers and the hands that have held hers along her homeownership journey and believes that “When you’re down, the only way to go is up!”

As LaToya attended 18 weeks of homeowner education classes and completed over 250 hours of sweat equity in preparation for homeownership, Lexington Habitat staff and volunteers worked alongside her. Now they get to share in her joy. Lexington Habitat CEO Rachel Childress adds, “At Habitat, we believe that strength, stability and self-reliance are facilitated and enhanced by quality shelter. These are some of the things LaToya mentions when she talks about what owning a home means to her. She also talks about a “sense of peace” --- isn’t that something we all want and need as we create homes of our own? We have been blessed to work beside LaToya and these incredibly faithful sponsors who are making it possible for her to achieve her goals.” Home sponsors Lexmark, Denham-Blythe Company, CLARK and Wells Fargo Housing Foundation came together in addition to dozens of volunteers to make this project possible.
