Ambassador Program

The LHFH Ambassador Program is designed to give young, diverse, energetic, committed community members leadership experience in support of LHFH in a variety of capacities. Ambassadors will serve as liaisons between LHFH and the Lexington community to promote the mission of LHFH to donors, volunteers, partner families, and others. Ambassadors will play an essential role in LHFH’s mission and hopefully will be inspired to become the next generation of LHFH leaders.

Ambassadors will receive an extensive training in the history, mission, and practices of LHFH and will have the opportunity to support LHFH through many different means. Ambassadors will have monthly meetings, participate in at least two build dates per year, assist with special events as needed, support fundraising events, and recruit new Ambassadors. Each Ambassador will have a member of the LHFH Board of Directors serve as a personal mentor.  Ambassadors will serve two year terms, with the option for a third year.

New Ambassador groups of 10-15 individuals will began serving with LHFH in the early fall of each year, and applications will be made available in mid August.   For more information, please contact Rob Turner at robt@lexhabitat.org or 859-252-2224 ext. 108.

Construction/Build Site Volunteer Opportunities

Groups of 12-15 people and individual volunteers are welcome!

·  Requirements: Must be at least 16 years old; minors age 16-17 need signed parental/guardian consent.  Previous construction experience not required, though it is welcome!

·  Commitment: construction volunteers needed from 8:30am-4:00pm on build days.  Volunteers are needed most Fridays and Saturdays, and some other weekdays as well.  Contact LHFH’s volunteer coordinator at 859-252-2224 ext. 108 or at robt@lexhabitat.org  to schedule a specific volunteer date, or to be added to our volunteer list.

ReStore Volunteer Opportunities

The ReStore is a re-sale store run by Lexington Habitat for Humanity. We sell donated furniture, building supplies, and household goods, appliances, and other items to the public. All proceeds are used to support the mission of Lexington Habitat for Humanity.  All ReStore volunteers must be 18 years old (excluding paint bulking volunteers).

ReStore Volunteer Shifts:

  • Volunteers are needed Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00am-1:30pm and 1:30-5:00pm.  Volunteers are asked to commit to12 shifts total, preferably once/week.  Contact Rob Turner at 859-252-2224 or robt@lexhabitat.org to schedule volunteer orientation.

ReStore Volunteer positions/duties:

  • Cashier – cashiers will operate cash register, help customers check out, answer telephones, and assist with general customer service.  Cashier/retail experience helpful, but not required.
  • Merchandise Cleaner/Sorter – will clean, sort, and organize new merchandise as it is donated.  Great way to start involvement at LHFH ReStore!
  • Receiving and Loading – assist staff in unloading donations and unloading purchases for customers.  Strong back and willingness to have fun required!
  • Sales floor department leaders – volunteers will focus on particular sections of the store, helping customers find right merchandise in each of the following sections: home accessories, appliances, large building supplies, and small building supplies.  Volunteers will also assist with pricing merchandise in each of these sections

Deconstruction Department

  • Paint Bulking – assist staff in processing donated paint, and recycle into re-useable paint to be sold to the public.  Great opportunity for younger volunteers ages 14-17!

  • Demolition and Deconstruction – LHFH’s deconstruction department can use individual volunteers and groups on an irregular basis to assist with partial and complete demolition of existing structures.  Many materials salvaged from such projects are sold in our ReStore.

    Office Volunteer Opportunities

    • Back up Administrative Assistants are needed to work Monday-Friday from 11am-1pm to help with answering phones, greeting visitors at the door, and other related responsibilities.  A regular commitment of one day per week would be ideal.

    • Help with other office projects is also needed on an irregular basis.

    Family Services Volunteer Opportunities

Lexington Habitat’s Family Services Department can use volunteers, at times, to serve on Family Support and Family Selection Committees.  It is recommend that new volunteers serve in another capacity at Lexington Habitat (construction, ReStore, etc.) first in order to better understand LHFH before joining one of these committees.
