Meet Mona Ashby

Mona

Mona Ashby is a native of Mt. Sterling and spent time living in Newport News, VA before moving to Lexington in 1993. Mona has two adult children and is raising her seven year-old Grandson, Ke’Andre Owens. She looks forward to her other grandson, Amere (5), visiting her new home and playing with Ke’Andre.

Mona works full time at the University of Kentucky as a scheduler for dentistry appointments. She is also a licensed Cosmetologist and has experience working in billing, claims and accounts receivable.Vibrant and talkative, Mona loves to spend time with her family and friends and listen to live music. Keeping up with Ke’Andre’s interests, which currently include playing basketball, swimming, playing Xbox and jumping on the trampoline, keeps her busy during her free time. One of the things they like to do together during the summer is visit water parks.

Mona saw an advertisement about Lexington Habitat for Humanity and decided to apply. She insists that this is the biggest and best blessing that she has ever received and claims that “finally having something to call my own, that nobody can take away from me, gives me great peace.” She is excited to give her grandchildren a place that they can actually call “Nana’s House!”

For her grandson, Mona’s homeownership means that he can have a room of his own and that he will be able to invite friends over to play. Mona is proud that she will be buying a home of her own, and the first thing she wants to do when she moves in is to have a big dinner and invite all her friends and family. Mona is grateful to the sponsors and volunteers that spend their time and money caring for other families, including hers. She prays that God will truly bless them for being such a blessing to her and her family.
