LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) – FOX 56 is celebrating the founding of our parent company, Nexstar Media Group, Inc., with the annual Founder’s Day of Caring.
Employees are given paid time off on Founder’s Day to do volunteer work with non-profit organizations and public service agencies in the local community.
This year, we volunteered with Lexington Habitat for Humanity to clear out vacant lots of shrubbery and debris near the Manchester Street corridor to prepare for the build of five townhomes.
Their project aims to bring affordable homeownership to the area—as one of the greatest barriers to local builders and Lexington Habitat is the skyrocketing cost of land in Fayette County—while strategically utilizing Lexington’s land.
Building townhomes is a new model for Lexington Habitat, but they say it’s becoming more common and successful among Habitat affiliates across the country.
This year’s Founder’s Day marks the 25th anniversary of Nexstar Media Group, Inc.
Nexstar is the largest local television group in the country, owning or operating 199 stations across the country including FOX 56.
