The 20th annual Shamrock Shuffle 3k, scheduled for Saturday, March 14th in downtown Lexington, is a beloved tradition to kick off running season in the Bluegrass. The family-friendly run/walk is open to all levels. Registration is now open at shamrockshuffle3k.com. All proceeds benefit Lexington Habitat for Humanity.
The 20th anniversary of the Shamrock Shuffle provides an opportunity to reflect on its deeply meaningful origins. Jennifer Smith Combs started the Shamrock Shuffle following the passing of her beloved father, Pat Smith, who was a passenger on Flight 5191.
Pat Smith was an enormous force for good. He transformed countless lives through Lexington Habitat for Humanity and beyond. He spent immeasurable hours volunteering locally and globally to build homes for hardworking families. His commitment to Lexington Habitat for Humanity continues to change lives in our community to this day.
“Pat Smith believed in showing up for his community, and he did so with humility and heart,” said CEO Darryl Neher. “As we mark the 20th Shamrock Shuffle 3k, we honor Pat and the Smith family for the lasting impact of that commitment. His legacy lives on in the homes built, the families supported and the spirit of generosity that continues to move this mission forward.”
“I started the Shamrock Shuffle to honor my dad’s legacy and his passion for Lexington Habitat,” said Shamrock Shuffle founder Jennifer Smith Combs. “It’s exciting to see how the city has embraced the race through the years and it has become a mainstay of the St. Patrick’s Day celebration.”
As Lexington Habitat for Humanity celebrates its 40th anniversary, the 20th annual Shamrock Shuffle 3k is a reminder of the organization’s legacy of impact. Since 1986, Lexington Habitat has built and repaired over 600 homes in Fayette County. Every Shamrock Shuffle 3k registration brings us one step closer to a world where everyone has a decent, safe and affordable place to live.
