Lexington Habitat ReStore
Donated Goods
We accept donations of new and used home goods, appliances, furniture and building materials that meet minimum standards. The sales from donated items help us partner with local families to build, rehabilitate and repair safe and affordable homes in our community. View what we can and cannot accept here.
Marketing
We drive traffic to the ReStore through a variety of efforts including radio, digital, print, social media and email. Unlike a traditional retailer, the primary focus of ReStore marketing is targeting potential donors rather than shoppers. View examples of our digital ads.
Paint Recycling Program
In 2008, we received a grant to help start a latex paint bulking or "paint recycling" program. Since then we have bulked over 1,000 batches of paint, saving 122,000+ partial gallons of paint (donated by the community) from the landfill in Lexington. That equates to over 300 tons of material... the weight of three Boeing 757 airplanes! The paint is then sold at the ReStore to support the mission of LHFH.
Community Engagement
Shamrock Shuffe 3K
Since 2006, we have invited walkers and runners of all ages and abilities to join us for the Shamrock Shuffle 3K! The Shamrock Shuffle 3k is more than just a race. On its 20th anniversary, we reflected on its origins. Jennifer Smith Combs started the Shamrock Shuffle following the passing of her beloved father, Pat Smith, who was a passenger on Flight 5191. Pat was an enormous force for good. He transformed countless lives through Lexington Habitat for Humanity and beyond.
Direct Mail
We typically send three mailed pieces to LHFH supporters per year to share our mission and encourage donations. Here are a few examples (click previews to view PDFs).
Home Dedications
At the end of each build, we host a home dedication with the family, volunteers, sponsors, board and the LHFH team. The family is presented the keys to their new home and we celebrate their achievement.
In June 2020, we hosted out first ever virtual home dedication to celebrate Patrick, Stacy and their children achieving homeownership. We are grateful that our virtual dedications were short lived but now have quite a collection to view. Attending dedications is a wonderful way to connect with the community and our mission.
Women Build
At Lexington Habitat for Humanity, we believe that building homes also builds strength, stability and independence. Our Women Build event is intentionally designed to create an empowering space for women – a place where women can lead, learn and support one another in a field where their voices and skills have too often been left out. Women Build is a celebration of the leadership, resilience and skill women bring to every aspect of building strong communities.
Cars for Homes
When you donate your car, truck, boat, RV, or other vehicle to Habitat for Humanity, you give those memories new meaning. Your gift helps build safe, affordable homes for families and protects the environment by recycling your vehicle responsibly.
