LEXINGTON, KY (September 18, 2025) – On Tuesday, September 23rd at 8:30 a.m., Lexington Habitat for Humanity will begin construction on a new home at 732 Harrison Trace. What makes this home stand out is something incredible: it is the first to be built under Lexington Habitat for Humanity’s newly revitalized Women Build program.
For homebuyer Ronnesia, the home represents the beginning of a new chapter. She can’t wait to begin building and ultimately give her children a safe, stable place to grow up.
“Women Build shines a light on the reality that single women leading households face some of the steepest barriers to homeownership, from higher childcare costs to greater housing cost burdens,” said Lexington Habitat CEO Darryl Neher. “By coming together to build and advocate, we not only create safe, affordable homes but also empower women to break cycles of inequality. At Lexington Habitat, we believe every woman deserves the opportunity to provide her family with the stability and strength that begins with home.”
Organizations and individuals in the community came together to make this home possible. Leading the charge with a generous sponsorship and commitment to building this home is the University of Kentucky Federal Credit Union.
"At UK Credit Union, we believe in rolling up our sleeves and giving back to the communities we serve,” said President and CEO Ryan Ross. “Lexington Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build is especially meaningful because it empowers women to take an active role in building safe and affordable homes for families in need. It’s more than just construction — it’s about building hope, strength and opportunity together. We’re proud to stand alongside so many inspiring women who are making a lasting difference."
Lexington Habitat for Humanity Women Build is a coalition of women working together to increase access to decent, affordable housing. The program centers women investing in the community they love by building strength and stability through affordable homeownership.
Other groups sponsoring Ronnesia’s journey to homeownership include The Fenton Dawson Memorial Fund, Jean Cravens, Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Valvoline, and affinity groups and individuals.
